Gravis UltraSound PnP RAM Adapter

Tribute to

The Gravis Ultrasound PnP/ PnP Pro SIMM72 RAM Adapter was designed in order to use 72-pin SIMMs in Gravis Ultrasound PnP series. SIMM72 will allow all users to enjoy 16 Mb of RAM (maximum supported by the AMD InterWave chip). This adapter is a unique project aimed at giving new life to vintage soundcard, making it possible to upload a 100 Mb soundfont (Utopia SoundFont) into its built-in synthesizer, giving a very special sound on the output. And all that is available for you WITHOUT ANY NEED TO SOLDER YOUR VALUABLE GUS (of course, if you have the Pro version with JP8 already soldered).

A sample first batch has been produced (with certain bugs) and successfully distributed among collectors.

Please take a look at the gallery.

DIY PCBs are still available for sale. If you are interested, feel free to use the "contact us" form. The DIY manual is available here.

The second batch (with all the errors corrected!) is being designed currently, lacking the necessary element base at the moment. We'll keep you updated!

Future products

We're rather full of ideas.

As soon as we finish the revised version of the Gravis UltraSound PnP RAM Adapter, we're thinking of proceeding with the AWE32 Adapter (also using SIMM72 instead of SIMM30).

Then we would like to finish our experiments with AWE32 DSP replacement (ver. 4.05 instead of 4.1x).

And how a vintage PC hardware webpage can exist without a single mentioning of 3dfx?! No way! Of course, we've already set up a partnership in order to design and produce a small batch of custom VSA-100 cooling - all those copper heatsinks, LEDs, branding labels, you know...

Talking graphics, maybe a Quantum3D mousepads would be nice too? Let's see!
